Persimmon Party

I walked up hill a bit to Ishibashi Memorial Park, which is a memorial park for Mrs Ishibashi, who was from a distinguished samurai family and left as her legacy to leave her land for nature.

The buildings and gates, which used to be an actual part of the Ishibashi family houses, were restored and are now in the park.

There was a persimmon tree in the middle of the park and all the fruit lovers had a party!

a Brown-eared Bulbul (Hiyodoriヒヨドリ)

a Pale Thrush (Shiroharaシロハラ)

a Brown-headed Thrush (Akaharaアカハラ)

a Japanese White-eye (Mejiroメジロ) - blurred...

oops...

a Dusky Thrush (Tsugumiツグミ)

The birds who are not interested in fruit were present as well.

a Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker (Kogeraコゲラ)

a Bull-headed Shrike (Mozuモズ)

The sky looked dull but it was a lovely day for me and the party lovers!

Feast in a Persimmon Tree

This Pale Thrush (Shiroharaシロハラ) was having a good time!

Oriental Greenfinches

Almost all the leaves in woods and parks have fallen so now is the time for the better views of smaller birds in trees.

Oriental Greenfinches (Kawarahiwaカワラヒワ) were quietly feeding on seeds by Nihon-ike.

They are quite agile even though they don't look so:)

They are not birds which I can see every day around here so it's always a pleasure to meet them:)

Ecology Park

The number of the ducks in Funadaike, Ecology Park has reached at a record high - more than 50 dabbling ducks!

Ducks were everywhere whichever direction you faced.

The ducks tend to get together with the same species but I don't know why.

The Mallard (Magamoマガモ)

The Gadwalls (Okayoshigamoオカヨシガモ)

The Teals (Kogamoコガモ)

The Falcated Ducks (Yoshigamoヨシガモ)

A lone male Pochard (Hoshihajiroホシハジロ) flew into the pond during the day (but flew off after a couple of hours diving, foraging and preening).

He went closer to a pair of mallards and was rather aggressive towards the female, who is much larger.

 Ouch!

I don't think they were competing for their food but he may not have liked the way she was feeding...!

a Great Egret (Daisagiダイサギ)

a Kingfisher (Kawasemiカワセミ)

my first Dusky Thrush (Tsugumiツグミ) of the season
